Free online ear training, one step at a time
Full Partituras Ear is an ear training course that runs in your browser. You listen, answer and find out straight away whether you were right: first whether a note goes up or down, then intervals, chords, scales and modes, scale degrees, chord progressions and, finally, melodic dictation on an on-screen piano.
There is no account to create and nothing to install: your progress is saved on your device, the app keeps working offline after your first visit, and it feels the same on a phone, a tablet or a laptop.
How it works
Every module is split into short levels with one clear goal: get 10 of your last 12 answers right (7 of 10 for progressions and dictation). Reach it and the next level unlocks. If you would rather jump around, switch on free roam in Settings.
Questions are not simply random. The app keeps score for every interval, chord and scale degree, and brings back the ones you miss more often. After a wrong answer you can play your pick and the right answer back to back from the same note, the fastest way to hear the difference. For scale degrees, progressions and dictation, a cadence sets the key first.
What you will train
Seven modules, ordered from the very basics to functional hearing:
- Pitch: higher or lower, from wide leaps down to a single semitone.
- Intervals: all twelve intervals, ascending, descending and harmonic, plus compound intervals beyond the octave.
- Chords: major, minor, diminished and augmented triads, seventh chords, suspended chords, inversions, sixths and ninths.
- Scales and modes: major, the three minor scales, pentatonics, blues, the seven church modes, whole tone and diminished.
- Scale degrees: name where each note sits in the key, in major, in minor and with chromatic notes, using movable-do solfège or numbers.
- Chord progressions: identify chord sequences by Roman numeral (I, IV, V, vi…) in major and minor keys.
- Melodic dictation: hear a melody of three to seven notes and play it back on the on-screen keyboard.
Who it is for
If you have never studied music, start with the pitch module: within minutes you will be telling your first intervals apart. If you already play an instrument or take theory lessons, the first screen lets you skip the warm-up and start in intervals, chords or modes.
It suits students and self-taught players alike: prepare for aural tests, sing more in tune in a choir, or work out songs by ear.
Tips for daily practice
- Five to ten minutes a day beats one long session a week. The daily workout mixes 15 questions from your current levels.
- Sing or hum what you hear before you answer: linking your voice to your ear speeds everything up.
- If you get stuck, drop back a level for a day or switch modules: scale degrees help with intervals, and vice versa.
- Use headphones or a decent speaker: phone speakers lose the low notes that define a chord.
Frequently asked questions
Is this ear trainer really free?
Yes. Every module and level is free, with no sign-up and no usage limits.
Do I need to read sheet music?
No. Every answer is given by ear. The names of intervals, chords and scales sink in as you practice, and the Guide explains what to listen for in each module.
How long until I notice progress?
Every ear moves at its own pace, but with short daily sessions it is common to hear a difference within a few weeks with major and minor chords and the most common intervals. Scale degrees and progressions take longer.
Is my progress saved?
Yes, in your browser's storage, without an account. In Settings you can export a backup file and restore it on another device. Progress is shared across every language version of the app.
Does it work on my phone and offline?
Yes, in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, tablets and computers, and offline after your first visit. On iPhone, turn off silent mode if you hear nothing.
What is movable-do solfège?
In the scale-degree module, Do is always the tonic of the key you are hearing, not a fixed C. If you prefer, Settings lets you show degrees as numbers (1, 2, 3…) instead.
How is it different from the Full Partituras ear training game?
The game on the main site is a quick round of guessing intervals and chords. Full Partituras Ear is a complete, progressive course with seven modules, level goals, statistics and melodic dictation.
